Clinical and Mycological Studies on Tinea Cruris



Abstract
The clinical and mycological investigation was made with 467 cases of tinea(T) cruris who had visited dermatologic clinic of maryknoll hospital from january, 1986 to december, 1990.
@ES The result were as follows:
@EN 1. The annual number of patients with T. cruris was 132(2.7% of the total outpatients) in 1986, 107(2.3%) in 1987, 79(1.9%) in 1988, 77(3.0%) in 1989, and 72(2.4%) in 1990.
2. The overall ratio of male to female patients was 7.3:1, and it was most prevalent in the twenties.
3. The monthly distribution of T. cruris remained almost constant except in February. March, April, and August.
4. From the 467 cases, 344 organisms composed of 5 species were isolated, which were Trichophyton(T.) rubrum(335 cases), T. mentagrophytes(3 cases), Epidermophyton floccosum(4 cases). Microsporum(M) canis(1 case), M, gypseum(1 case).
5. Concurrent infections of T. cruris with other types of dermatophytosis were noted in 241 cases(51.6%). And the most common was T. pedis.
6. Secondary changes of T. cruris were noted in 36 cases(7.7%), which were lichenification(18 cases), striae distensae(11 cases).
